![]() ![]() God is waiting for everybody to tap back in. “ No Church In A While has all types of meanings,” explains 1K Phew. “We just went through the pandemic and ain’t nobody to church in a minute. This album is for everybody who ain’t been to church or connected to God in a while who thinks they can’t go back. Out of his convos with 1K Phew who he is mentoring came the idea to actually record an album for people who like themselves hadn’t been to church in a while. Lecrae was recording his mixtape, Church Clothes 4, when it occurred to him that people actually hadn’t been to church to even put on those church clothes because of the pandemic, church hurt, and other reasons. The concept for their collaborative album, No Church For A While grew out of conversations between Lecrae and 1K Phew. There’s also a Sunday Brunch planned with Atlanta influencers and local media at a private, invite-only location! The label has partnered with YouTube for a YouTube Premiere exclusive and official afterparty tomorrow. From then on, I was different. On Friday, December 3rd, Lecrae and 1K Phew will release their new collaborative album, No Church In A While, which features 10 tracks including “Wildin” “Ready Or Not,” “Move It,” “One Call,” “What We Gon Do,” “Amen,” “Blockhead,” “Born Sinner” “Save Us,” and “No Church In A While.” Reach Records has several rollout plans to celebrate the release including a YouTube premiere of “One Call,” (the second single and video released from NCIAW) at 3pm on December 3rd. It wasn’t until he and his friends almost got shot one day that Phew decided to truly surrender his life to God and His plan. But even though Phew had it better than some of his peers, having grown up with two praying parents who encouraged him in his gifting, he still found himself going down a destructive path as a teen. “You can’t force anybody to follow your way but you can let your light shine and watch them come to you.” The past he speaks of is one that rings true for the many who grew up in similar circumstances. “The story I’m telling is how I overcame my obstacles,” he says. This sort of genuine directness is what resonates with his audience and his growing platform is a clear reflection of his passion to share his story. That’s where the 1K comes from, always keeping it 1,000 no matter what.” To let him tell it: “I’m not worried about being politically correct. There’s a sense of transparency that comes through in his music, a kind of refined rawness that can only be gained through experience and honing your craft. As evidenced by his mixtapes Sunday Night (2015) and Life (2016), Phew’s got plenty of swag and wisdom to impart, and people are beginning to connect with his candid approach. He’s fun and engaging, no doubt, but he’s so much more. At just 23 years old, Phew’s rise from local rapper with swagger to compelling artist equipped with a message, has been refreshing to watch. His smooth delivery and evocative vocal tone pair well with the bouncy, energetic production that defines his sound. After an incident when he and his friends were shot at and narrowly escaped death, the teen shifted gears, turning to a life devoted to faith and reflecting that faith in his music.ġK Phew is among a new breed of Atlanta artists taking the trap sensibility and elevating it to great effect. By his mid-teens he was already interested in rap, but was spending a lot of time getting in trouble in the streets. My message is faith and hope.ġK Phew hails from Stone Mountain, Georgia, a city right outside of Atlanta. ![]() 1K Phew I just want to share my life through this music.
