The game often freezes on launch, freezes in the home screen menu, it often freezes when joining a server and kicking me back out to the main menu. I even considered my input devices or software may be the problem, so removed Ghub and removed all hardware device entries, and tested with plug&play USB peripherals, but this made no difference.Ī couple of months ago, I replaced my boot NVME (went from Gen 3 to Gen 4) and installed Windows 11 The input freezing bug seemed to stop, but instead the entire game would freeze for those 20ish seconds before carrying on, it also happened far more frequently.Īnd in this last major update, the situation has somehow degraded even further. No amount of troubleshooting or bug chasing could resolve that, and EA denied it was a real problem despite the myriad of complaints online from other users. At first, it was just the controls/inputs freezing for 15-30 seconds, while everyone else on the server carried on as normal. In the last 7 months or so, it has degraded to the point that it is unplayable. Upgraded CPU from a Ryzen 3100 to 5600X and was playing happily at 100+ fps at 1440p. I never experienced any stability issues, no freezing or crashing, and never any of those graphical issues which seemed to mostly be from consoles. When the game first went live, it was playable but with performance issues. But no more, I cannot defend this atrocity any longer. I was a staunch defender of 2042 when the majority of issues stemmed from users with older CPUs or 4 core processors. It is the most unreliable gaming experience I've ever had the stupidity to endure. Selling two copies instead of one makes double the profit, and it seems like the number of people who would buy a game just for the split-screen isn’t enough to offset that. This is without question the most unstable and buggy game I have ever encountered. Alternatively, studios may just want to sell more copies of their games. Usually, it requires a downgrade in graphics or gameplay to pull off. Split-screen gameplay is more resource-intensive than a single-player. It’s possible that studios want to use the full computational power available. But, of course, plenty of people still ask for it, so we can only make some educated guesses as to why it’s disappeared. It’s rare to the point that often games will make the news just for including it as a feature. Since Battlefield 2042 features bots, it would have made a good candidate for split-screen, but most studios have completely stopped developing local multiplayer. This is in contrast to Call of Duty, which allowed split-screen multiplayer for a good part of its history before ditching it. In our research, we couldn’t find that any of the games in the franchise offered the option. Since there’s no campaign in Battlefield 2042, there’s no reason to have couch co-op either.Īs a series, Battlefield doesn’t have a history of having split-screen. Furthermore, there’s no LAN support, so players also need to be connected to the internet. Those wanting to play the game together will need to have two systems and two copies of the game (fortunately, it does have crossplay). So is Battlefield 2042 any different? Can you play split-screen multiplayer in Battlefield 2042?īattlefield 2042 does not support split-screen multiplayer. Even LAN multiplayer is seldomly supported by games these days. Once a staple of the industry, local multiplayer is now a rarity as studios focus entirely on the online experience. Players are wondering if Battlefield 2042 has split-screen multiplayer or couch co-op.
